Uruapan Charanda Blanco Rum

Charanda – rum from the valley near the town of Uruapan in Michoacán – has been made for over a hundred years and means “red-colored soil”. There is no characteristic, just locale, when it comes to charanda. What we have here is a blend of 50% agricole style rum and 50% molasses based rum. Not as intense or earthy as agricoles from Martinique but still has a funky, citrusy salinity. I could see this style really catching on.
